The Next Step Scholarship in Biology

This Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences scholarship is intended for Biology majors. The scholarship is used for two purposes: 1) to facilitate recruiting an outstanding applicant for one of the Biology Department’s graduate programs; or 2) to enable a current graduate student to focus exclusively on their research and/or or capitalize on an unusual research opportunity, and in so doing enable that individual to complete an element of his/her work that could not otherwise be accomplished (i.e., taking their research to the next level). The award is typically $5,000, and must be used within a 12-month period from the time of the award. The Biology Graduate Committee awards Next Step scholarships for recruitment on the basis of the applicant’s academic record, research experience, and letters of reference.
