J. Russell and Linda P. Fleming

J. Russell and Linda P. Fleming

This scholarship will support a nursing student with demonstrated academic achievement, with a special interest in pediatric nursing.

The first endowed gift by J. Russell (’71) and Linda P. (MA ’76) Fleming was made in 2008 in memory of Russell’s parents, Marguerite K. and Van Calvin Fleming. Russell’s parents were very active and well-respected community members. They were active members of St. James Methodist Church in Greenville.

One of four children, only Russell remained in Greenville. Russell is descended from a farming family who until the 1900’s had worked their land since receiving it as a land grant from the king of England. Russell was in life insurance before establishing Cape Point Development Co. which has been active in building healthcare facilities among other business sites.

Linda and Russell have one daughter, Lauren, who is a nurse educator for pediatric diabetes.

In addition to wanting to honor their daughter, Linda and Russell wanted to honor this often under recognized profession in healthcare and support future nurses through this endowment made in memory of Russell’s parents.
