The Gerhard Kalmus Scholarship (P)

This Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences scholarship is for Biology majors. The purpose of the fund is to provide general scholarship support to undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Biology. Awarded based upon academic ability.

Gerhard W. Kalmus was born in Berlin, Germany. He received his BS from the University of California at Berkeley and his PhD from Rutgers University. He joined the Department of Biology in 1977. His research expertise is in embryology, with a focus on teratological changes resulting from exposure to alcohol. He also served as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department before becoming the Director of Graduate Studies. In recognition of his service to the Biology Club and to undergraduates, a scholarship award for outstanding undergraduates was established in 1980. His roles as an advisor and as a director of undergraduate and graduate studies demonstrated his dedication and loyalty to the students and to the Department.
