The Fleming / Perry Scholarship

The Fleming / Perry Scholarship is offered by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures to students within their majors. James Fleming, who serves as department chair from 1945-70, made the initial gift that endowed the scholarship. Marguerite Perry, who was department chair from 1975-81, contributed an additional gift in 1990.

Students must be a declared BA in Foreign Languages and Literatures Major pursuing a concentration in either French, French Education, German, German Education, Hispanic Studies, or Hispanic Studies Education (for students on undergraduate catalogs 2015-present) or be a student majoring in French, French Education, German, German Education, Hispanic Studies, or Hispanic Studies Education (for students on undergraduate catalogs prior to 2015). The amount and number of the scholarships vary from year to year.

In order to be considered for the award, students must meet the following criteria: Minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and in foreign language courses; be a current freshman, sophomore, or junior at the time of application; exhibit committed participation in departmental affairs; commitment to co-curricular activities; and an interest in international and multicultural diversity.
