The EA-Medicine Opportunity
The Early Assurance Program in Medicine is a program offered jointly by the Honors College and the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University for North Carolina residents. The program is directed at prospective students who are interested in medical school after they complete their undergraduate degrees. This program guarantees your entry into the Brody School of Medicine upon completion of your undergraduate degree and Honors College academic requirements. Each year, four incoming Honors College students are selected for this program and an additional four students are identified as alternates. Early Assurance will be open only to students currently enrolled and in good standing in ECU’s Honors College. First time Honors College applicants are no longer eligible to apply.
Interested students must be in good standing with the Honors College and have a minimum 3.5 overall and science GPA. Students must have completed at least 20 hours of prerequisite coursework, 8 hours minimum of Biology and 12 hours minimum of Chemistry. Applicants must also actively participate with the Pre-Professional Advising Center and completed HNRS3003 – Survey of Health Careers.

-Minimum 8 credit hours of Biology, preferably advanced level Biology coursework beyond General/Introductory Biology at ECU, not including AP credits and/or Dual Enrollment Community College credits. Courses could include: Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy & Physiology.
-Minimum 12 hours of Chemistry with 8 hours of General Chemistry and at least 4 hours of Organic Chemistry (plus lab). - Describe your relationship with the ECU Center for Pre-Professional Advising.

- Identify where you have shadowed, number of hours at each site (if more than one), and your takeaways from the experience. Please include all shadowing opportunities.
- This award requires that each applicant provide a reference letter. This letter should come from a faculty member that can speak to your skills, abilities, activities, and/or community involvement. You should make sure the reference provider is willing to provide you a reference letter and then let them know to expect an email invitation to provide the reference. It is your responsibility to make sure they file the letter prior to the deadline.
