The Das Family Scholarship

This College of Health and Human Performance Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a degree in Kinesiology. Preference is given to a student from Eastern North Carolina.

The late Sarmistha “Lilly” Das, who passed away on December 29, 2023, was the mother of Dr. Bhibha Das, faculty in ECU’s Department of Kinesiology. Lilly was also the wife of Nagendra Prasad Das, a high school agriculture teacher, and the mother of Eva Das. She earned a Masters of Arts in Linguistics from Berhampur University in Odisha, India. She was a homemaker who loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Mrs. Das was a huge advocate of higher education and lifelong learning and curiosity. As such in her honor, the Das family has established a scholarship to honor an outstanding junior or senior.
